Adam Zsolt Wagner gives the ICARM plenary lecture at Combinatorics at the Confluence — an International Congress of Mathematicians satellite conference hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, 20–22 July 2026.
The lecture takes place on Monday 20 July, 5:00–6:00 p.m., in the Rashid Auditorium (GHC 4401) of the Gates Hillman Complex. It will be followed by a tutorial on Tuesday 21 July, 9:30–10:30 a.m., at the same location.
Abstract
In mathematics, the focus is often on finding interesting constructions for various mathematical problems. I will discuss how some tools can reduce the effort required to find the right questions, explore variants of a problem, test our ideas, and find good constructions for various problems. We will look at different ways we can think about how these tools work, examine many examples, and determine which of these setups is right for the problems you care about.
